Menopause the Musical.

I went with my mom, my grandma, and two other neighbor ladies to go see Menopause the Musical at the Orphium in Memphis on Saturday March 21. I was probably the youngest woman there. It was really nice spending time with the older ladies! They are just too funny! The musical was very funny! It has different twists on old favorites so you had to listen carefully to catch the witty changes! Some things went right over my head. I just don't understand all about the "change" I'm still trying to deal with this baby- making- mess I have right now! I got a little tired of the "hot flashes" coming up so frequently but I guess that's how it is! It was still very entertaining. I felt a little embarrassed at times but it was just so funny funny funny! Real women being real women! I'm glad I got to go and have a girls day out with my mom.

After the musical went went on a walk down Beale Street. I always hear about this hopping party place for all the night clubs but it is just as alive in the day time. I loved walking down the streets hearing jazz and blues music. The oldie time feel of the street made me feel like I was in the Elvis era. We went into an old Five and Dine, ( i guess that's what it's called?) The building was still filled with every knick knack you could think of. It also had its old features. On the side there was the shoe shinning center with colorful plastic chairs. It was like a blast to the past if I actually knew what the past looked like. The ladies really enjoyed it!

Then we went to eat at BB Kings Club. There was a live band and they were great! We all convinced my sweet, crazy mom to go dance as a back up dancer for the singer. There were two young girls and her. She schooled them all! They boogied to Tina Turners "Rolling on the River". All us girls were dancing in our seats yelling and hollering! Living every day to its fullest! I want to be like her- dance like there is no one looking!! Or when you know everyone is looking, WHAT THE HECK!
The BBQ was really good. I have been dying for a good BBQ pulled pork sandwich topped with crisp yummy cole slaw. That's the southern roots in me! It was good but when I got it it had a soggy bottom so I didn't get to eat it like a sandwich.
I want to go down there more, I love the feel of rhythm and blues!!

Oh, and so you know... The Musical Wicked is finally coming to the Orphium in June and I AM SO GOING! I'm wondering if I should read the book first! I'm so excited for a musical for me!

DON'T READ THE BOOK!! It's icky. The show is great -- based VERY loosly on the book. I quit the book halfway through. Don't waste your time. I *would* however familiarize yourself with the musical. Get the CD. There are really good show synopses online (like Wikipedia) but just a warning -- they do ruin the ending. So if you want to be surprised, don't read the whole thing, or don't read them at all. But they do help you get the feel for what is going on in the show and how the songs fit in.
