Kisses to Our Rainbow Rice

NO. 1 is BEGGING me to do projects and to teach him something but I've been at a loss, or too busy, and the truth is I ran out of most of my crafty ideas and supplies. I was browsing one of my favorite activity blogs, No Time for Flash Cards, where she does way too many fun things for me to even keep up with. I ran across 101 Ways to Embrace Summer, and it has given me a little nudge towards summer playtime!!

I was totally excited about Rainbow Rice, a sensory activity. I've been totally slacking on giving #1 a sensory activity, thinking he would get bored. NO WAY!!! He played with his rice for almost an hour quietly and intently! I have NEVER seen him so engaged and focused! He would have played longer but I pulled him away.

This activity is going to be so fun this summer, I made sure to make 2 a bucket too!! It is so fun, so easy, and so darn beautiful, you really can't help playing with it yourself! :)

Rainbow Rice Basics: Rice, Food Coloring ( the gel worked fine as long at your smashed it in the vinegar before adding the rice), Vinegar, a container for mixing ( we used ziplocs)

We did 6 colors: For each you need 2T Vinegar- some food coloring and 1 1/2 C. Rice for each new color.. Shake it up!!! Then we put it on a cookie sheet and into the 175 degree oven for 20 mins. It was so fast, and the boys loved shaking!!

First Cake

I spent all this money on all these supplies for decorating. I really thought I would do this a lot and love it. However, I am having some problems. I am not sure if I am going to take the rest of the classes. I am really conscious about the food I serve people. If my food is not good I feel ashamed to serve it. I put love and time in my food and that's what I like to be known as for the taste. Anyways- the cake that has to be inside a "frosted"cake can't be moist and crumbly. KISSES TO SARIAH for helping me find a denser cake recipe. It still doesn't have that unique cake flair I like to give my food.. Like my delicious German Chocolate cake I made last year.. YUM..

ALSO* The Butter cream frosting with all that LARD is just gross to me. I know that is how the frosting can hold its shape but I just don't want to feed people it. So, I'm having a conflict of serving these cakes for eating or wasting food for art. My hate list keeps growing. BUT I love the hobby and it could be helpful for wedding cakes and celebration cakes.. .. ..Who likes wedding cakes anyways!?

MY CAKE CON's
1. I hate the way it smells
2. I hate the way it tastes
3. I hate the way it feels
4. Its so greasy its hard to wash
5. I hate serving it to people
6. There is WAY too much frosting
7. I hate the way it smells... It just adds to my sickness. YUCK!

Cakes are not my favorite dessert anyways, I would much rather make something gooey and moist or dinner foods!

Well- I'll keep trying my best but I'm so afraid I just waisted a bunch of money. It'll be useful on some occasions I am sure.
I finished my very first cake. The frosting textures had some problems but I will grow as a cake decorator and maybe get better. MAYBE
