Backwards Day

January 31st is Backwards Day.

We had a lot of fun doing things backwards, and reminding each other about doing things backwards!
We walked up the stairs backwards, sang the the ABC's backwards.

We started our day off with desert.. MILK AND COOKIES!

Then we had dinner for lunch, which was chicken nuggets... Dad says buying Chick-fil-a for dinner was backwards, since we don't eat out much.

No.1 insisted on wearing his clothes backwards ALL DAY!
For dinner we had BREAKFAST! These BREAKFAST BURRITOS were YUM!
Hash browns, Ground Sausage, Scrambles Eggs all mixed and covered with Cheese w/ those fantastic Raw tortilla.
 Don't forget the Chalula!

Hot (Herbal) Tea Month

In January we celebrates Hot (Herbal) Tea Month. Today we threw ourselves a "tea" party! You know we don't drink teas: black, grey, green, sweet, unsweetened  We just don't drink tea so several times during our Herbal Tea party I got to teach my children about the Word of Wisdom revelation of No Tea, No Coffee, and FOLLOWING THE PROPHET. We also got to learn about seeping tea bags vs. leaves in our drink, and why we still call it "tea". We also talked about 11's in England and "once's"  in Chilie.

It was all last minute, "Oh yea!! We're having a tea party today!" Good thing I had some  "tea". We made Cranberry Apple Herbal Tea and Red Raspberry Herbal Tea (yes, I had some left over from when I was patiently "waiting" for Lelee to make his arrival).

We made Cucumber Cracker Sammy's, Hot Tea, and Iced Tea.. we added way TOO MUCH SUGAR, and it was PERFECT! :)

The funniest thing at our tea party was when Daddy  said "Oh Regional, you're such a tease!" in a fancy England ascent   My 2 year old pointed to his cups and said "MY TEAS Daddy!" So much fun! Thanks Boys for helping Mommy today! YUM!

I can't wait for our next "Tea Party". I've got boys so once a year is just enough for us!

January 29th, 2013- National Puzzle Day

I am trying to plan my activities on whim. I know I can have fun with my kids in just a few seconds without hours of preparation or trying to collect "trash" just so I can do an art project. I don't like trash.. or crafts from trash or toys from trash.. those things just end up in the trash.

This quick puzzle takes time to make and even more time to put together. It's not made from trash.. but yes it also ends up in the trash eventually, without tears. I don't know what brought on my rage against garbage...geez!

I make my puzzle in a 9x9. Fold it in 3rds one way, open and then in 3rds the other way. try to make them as even as possible. Then open it up and draw a picture, THE SAME PICTURE, that's very important,  draw a picture on every crease you've made. You also draw half that picture on all the edges.  Then cut the page on all the creases you made.

After you cut the picture all the pieces look the "same" but in reality only 2 pieces fit together to make the page whole. This spider man puzzle was fun to make but it was a little difficult for my young ones. Next time I'll stick to a single shape. The boys made their puzzles too.. but I told them it's very important to follow directions in this project. They refused... so it didn't work out the way they wanted, maybe next Puzzle Day!

Opposite Day

Our Curriculum this year, 2013, is to CELEBRATE THE CALENDAR! We got started a little late, and hopefully I can commit to this and we can have a really fun 2013. Learning, Discovering, and Crossing Off Days! Let the tradition making begin!

January 25th- Opposite Day

Today we talked about Opposites all day. If we came to a word we tried to be the first person to say the opposite. Then in a quick-tivity. Meaning I had to pull something together on a whim. We made a pile of pictures and their job was to find the opposite matches and glue them to the paper. My kids still love just sitting down and gluing stuff so this completely worked for us!
